Hair Wisdom: Nine To Fine
Trying to figure out how to unleash your inner hair goddess? From frizz, to grease and grays, embrace these nine easy tips and discover your fine finish:
1. Pre-game.
This is probably my favorite hair tip. If you are using dry shampoo after your hair is already oily, then you’ve already missed the mark. You need to pre-game! Get on top of your grease, literally. If you know your hair gets oily fast, then on the day you wash your hair, dry shampoo it BEFORE you go to bed. If you are going to work out and you tend to “glisten” a lot (aka, sweat!), then dry shampoo your hair pre-workout to help absorb the oils that are undoubtedly on their way! I personally can’t live without Kevin Murphy’s Fresh Hair Dry Shampoo. It flies off the shelves at ZEN for a reason. The scent of this spray is delightful and it really attacks the oil immediately and leaves your hair as the label implies super “fresh.”
2. Don’t be afraid to tease.
If you want oomph, then tease! My favorite teasing brush is the Kevin Murphy Detailing Brush, but a fine-tooth comb works equally as well. Go ahead and over-tease your hair, you can always smooth it out. When you tease at the crown, you instantly give your blowout extraordinary volume or your pony that Bridget Bordeaux vibe.
3. Switch up your part.
Try a deep side part. Switching to a deep side part is a quick and easy way to give your hair instant volume since it forces strands to lie opposite at the root, propping them up, so they appear fuller.
4. Pinch hair hack.
It’s as easy as it sounds. Literally pinch together the two sections of hair at the front of your part. This will bring the top part closer together while simultaneously allowing the rest to swoop farther apart giving you a curtain fringe shape. This little pinch move just gives you a little extra lift at the root. It’s a simple and easy way to refresh your style.
5. Sleep on a satin or silk pillowcase.
Silk or satin pillowcases can improve skin and hair hydration, prevent fine lines and wrinkles, and result in smoother, frizz-free hair every morning. When you toss and turn at night, the friction created on regular pillowcases can damage the hair follicle and lead to shedding. That, in turn, leads to less shine and more frizz. Boo! Basically, if you want to maintain your style for several days and avoid getting “crush wrinkles” on your face from sleeping on your side then it's time to up your pillowcase game. I personally love Kitsch satin pillowcases and you can find these gems in the retail space at ZEN.
6. Overnight curls.
Skip the damaging heating tools and try Kitsch’s Satin Heatless Curling Set. This curling rod is super easy to use and creates beautiful waves and curls. My suggestion is to use it on dry hair and once your hair is set, lightly spray with hairspray, sleep, and then wake up like a hair goddess. It’s as easy as that. This heatless curling gizmo also helps your hair remain frizz-free and reduces the amount of breakage.
7. Shake it up.
If you are using any type of aerosol hair product, then you need to give it a good shake before applying it to your locks. The formula settles when sitting unused so for best results, shake it back up so it’s working its best for you!
8. Grays, I mean “tinsel”, sneaking up on you?
Finding it hard to get to the salon as soon as they start emerging? My frequent recommendation to my clients is to use Color WOW Root Cover Up. It comes in 8 different shades so be sure to find the one that is closest to your “natural” color. It is super easy to apply and really masks those pesky grays.
