Congratulations Maurisa Potts!

Here is what you need to know about Maurisa: she is the most loyal person I know and a fierce protector of the people and things she loves. When you meet her, it is easy to tell she is a committed daughter, mother, wife, and friend. But it goes beyond that. If you work with her, you know she will bust her butt for her clients. If you follow her on Instagram @mtpotts you know she loves music, particularly Prince and Foo Fighters. When it comes to sports, she loves the New York Yankees (and Derek Jeter), has a conflicted relationship with the Washington Commanders, and loves her alma mater, Virginia Tech – which brings us to this photo shoot and the award she just received, The Virginia Tech Influential Black Alumni Entrepreneur of the Year Award. It’s a pretty big dang deal and so well deserved.

Another thing I feel like I have to mention about Maurisa is how good she looks. She has always worked out and taken care of herself but in the last few years she has taken it to a new level. She turns the big 5-0 this year and has never looked better. I like to tease her and call her “the J. Lo of Alexandria”; she really is reverse aging. But of course, this just reconfirms that she has a crazy work ethic. She makes eating well and working out a priority and even if it means a 5 am wake-up call, she gets that workout done.

Maurisa Potts and I go back; way back. I don’t actually remember the year we met. If memory serves me, we were connected because I was looking for someone to handle press for the Alexandria Warehouse Sale. I had a vision for what it could become but I needed someone to help me get there and it turned out that person was Maurisa. The sale had already been going on for a few years and Maurisa had just started Spotted MP, her marketing and public relations firm. As they say, the rest is history and we have worked together ever since. Maurisa has worked hard to get where she is and along the way she fights to take other people with her, especially women. I am so lucky to have her in my corner and so proud of what she has accomplished.

I wanted to make sure our readers knew about her award, and I thought, how perfect that we have a Veronica Beard show coming up and this brand represents Maurisa so well. It is owned by two women and the clothes fit her lifestyle, that of a busy working mom who is running from events to meetings to the youth sports sidelines. If you see Maurisa around town, make sure you tell her congrats. It is so well deserved and since we are just ending Black History month and starting Women’s History month, Maurisa is the perfect person to feature.

Now about the fits: Maurisa is modeling all AGL and Veronica Beard shoes and clothing. The AGL trunk show starts today and all AGL is 20 percent off. Next Thursday, March 9th the Veronica Beard event starts through Sunday, March 12th. Stop in and check out all our great new arrivals.

Owner | The Hive and The Shoe Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
