Shopping, Champagne, Ugly Sweaters, And Parades With Monday’s Child!

Hello December! Who is ready for the holidays? As we jump into the festivities of the season, it seems like people are making up for lost time and getting geared up for the events and traditions that were limited by the pandemic last year. While I am attempting to keep Christmas from becoming overwhelming, I am so excited for what's in store this magical time of the year! And to kick off the celebrations, we've got cookies, shopping, champagne, and the Scottish Parade on our mind.

Whether you are just finishing your shopping or just getting started, did you know that Monday's Child sells toys? While we all wish we could still pop into the famous Why Not? for all of our toy needs, Monday's Child does have a section of toys and stuffed animals that we match with great books, our favorite Harding Lane hats, and cute outfits – they make really nice gifts. Trucks, mermaids, animals, dinosaurs, princesses, and puzzles, we've got fun options for kids for Christmas, birthdays, and just because (see the options on our website.)

In addition to toys for the children, what screams of Christmas more than baking cookies? Growing up, my late grandmother always had tins and tins of holiday cookies in her house when we would visit for Christmas (it made the freezing cold and snowy weather in Buffalo easily worth the visit!) Now, every Christmas Eve, we attempt to recreate her frosted sugar cookies; of course, ours are never as good as hers, but it's such a special tradition that I really look forward to after church on Christmas Eve.

When we were at Market in Atlanta this past February, I couldn't resist buying the beautiful Proper Peony aprons that come with matching options for mom and brother. We also carry the sweetest blank aprons that we can monogram with gingerbread cookies, elves, Christmas trees, or any holiday motif you desire. We are here to help personalize and make the holiday as special as we can. While you stock up on gifts, be sure to check out our selection of aprons for all of your cookie baking needs!

It wouldn't be December without an ugly sweater party and lots of champagne. We are hosting the extremely talented Bisous & The Bay for a trunk show of hand-painted champagne bottles on Tuesday, December 7, from 6pm – 8pm. Beautiful holiday plaids, painted nutcrackers, and Christmas scenes painted on a champagne bottle are the perfect gift for that special person on your list who seems to have everything. So, we hope you'll come break out the bubbly and toast to the holiday season with us (we will have champagne bottles for purchase.) To cap off the festivities, we will be offering prizes for the ugliest sweaters and 30 percent off Monday's Child purchases.

For us, the Scottish Christmas Walk really kicks off the Christmas season! It's such a special tradition, and we can't wait for it this weekend. Here are a few other December highlights I'm excited to take my kids to:

Owner | Monday’s Child

Born and raised in Alexandria and married to a native Alexandrian as well! We love living in Old Town - just a few blocks from the store - with our three little boys and golden retriever Rumpelstiltzkin. Although my first job and real love was retail (the Lilly Pad where Mint Condition is now), I worked in Public Affairs and PR prior to buying the shop, which has really been a dream come true for me. I feel so grateful to work with our customers to find the perfect outfit for their special childhood moments. When I’m not at the store you can probably find me at an Old Town park chasing the boys or on my yoga mat.

A classic children’s boutique in Old Town, Alexandria for 40 years, we carry special occasion and play clothes for sizes newborn to 12. Located in the historic Crilley Warehouse just two blocks from the water, Monday’s Child is your go-to shop for baby gifts, baptism gowns, holiday dresses and outfits, boy’s blazers and ties, First Communion, shoes, books, toys and much more.
