The Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend Is Back!
The Scottish Christmas Walk is returning to Old Town for Alexandria’s biggest holiday weekend. For 50 years, Alexandrians have gone mad for plaid during the first weekend of December, and this year is sure to be no different. So, grab your tartan and bundle up – the Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend is here!
The Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend (SCWW) celebrates Alexandria’s Scottish heritage throughout the streets of Old Town. Decked out in colorful tartan and festive attire, we celebrate the city’s Scottish founders to start the holiday season off right. SCWW is hosted by the Campagna Center and supported by Junior Friends of the Campagna Center, a membership organization dedicated to fundraising, volunteering, and supporting the Campagna Center through events like the Scottish Christmas Walk and the Taste of Scotland scotch tasting event. The weekend events center around fundraising for the children and families of Alexandria and the educational and social programs the Campagna Center provides to support them. From after-school programs and tutoring to English language classes and career readiness courses, the Campagna Center supports our community because they believe that an entire community benefits when individuals can achieve their highest potential. The weekend begins each year with the annual Taste of Scotland Scotch Tasting on Friday evening (now sold out), followed by the Scottish Christmas Walk parade beginning at 11am on Saturday, December 4. The parade will start at Wolfe & South Saint Asaph Streets, right near our TTR Sotheby’s International Realty office! From there, the parade will move north to Queen Street, head east towards Fairfax Street, then south towards King Street, where the parade will end in front of City Hall.
Our very own Maria Bowman Ansley is this year’s SCWW chairwoman, and she is thrilled that the Campagna Center is hosting the Scottish Walk again this year. “It’s the perfect way to kick off the holiday season and bring back a tradition that many Alexandrians look forward to every year to get into the Christmas spirit. It’s one of my favorite weekends here in Old Town as it brings the community together, not only to have fun but also to support our local children and families in need.”
