Sweatpants Aren’t Going Anywhere

Last year was “the year of the sweatpants.” They came in every fabric, every color, and every shape. I would like to think that I was an early convert to the “dressy” sweatpants. I still love my old school, thick, Champion-style sweats, but there are not many weeks that go by that I don’t wear a sweat in a bit of a dressier way. I know that being stuck at home made us all embrace them a little too much - I even found myself needing to put something on with a zipper if only to keep myself honest about whether my clothes still fit.

Even if you over-indulged purchasing or wearing sweatpants, I promise you can still incorporate them into your wardrobe and not look like a slob. You just have to style them the right way. If one brand perfected the dressy sweatpant, it was TIBI. Despite having multiple pairs, I always went for my TIBI Calder sweatpants. They are sculpted, so most of the time I wear them, I don’t think anyone realizes they are sweats.

Last winter, they did them in black and grey. This summer, they introduced them in great colors. We got all three colors, but the mint green sold out in a day from us and from TIBI directly. We still have some blue and yellow left, and we are getting black back in for fall, along with a new style that ties at the ankle.

Amy, the Founder and Creative Director of Tibi, is the person I look to for style inspiration. Since these are her sweats, we thought we would show how she wears them and then our take on the look with what we have in stock. I, of course, got the green and the yellow. We don’t have too many left, and we can always try to order a pair. But you heard it here first, they are going fast!

Owner | The Hive and The Shoe Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
