Tax Free Weekend, Plus Our Picks!

I haven’t met anyone who likes paying taxes. I mean, I am sure those people are out there - I just don’t know them.

Like most people, I hate taxes. So, one of my favorite events at the stores is Tax Free Weekend. By now, everyone knows that our Commonwealth has a tax-free weekend every August for back-to-school shopping. This year, it is Friday, August 6th through Sunday, August 8th. Nobody pays sales taxes on clothing items under $100 or school supplies under $20. There are also some exceptions for hurricane preparedness products, but I don’t think Golden Goose would count, in spite of the fact I would personally wear them in case of any natural disaster.

So, it is a great week to go out and get shopping. Years ago, Kelly from Bishop had the great idea of her story paying the sales tax on all items during this weekend. A group of stores joined in, and it has made the weekend even more fun and a great reason to shop small during tax free weekend.

At The Hive and The Shoe Hive, you won’t pay sales tax on anything during this weekend. No matter what the price tag, there is no tax, so it is basically a six percent discount. We decided to pick some of our favorite items under $100, and the items we would splurge on that are new for fall.

We aren’t the only ones in on this, of course, Bishop Boutique is along with many Alexandria Stylebook members and the Old Town Boutique District.
