The Constellation Necklace

Have you seen our new Constellation Necklace? I’ve been featuring it prominently at our shop because I honestly cannot get enough of it. I love the subtly organic shape of the line and how it sparkles just enough to draw the eye without looking like an eighties lighting bolt. I especially love that it’s completely customizable -- you choose the metal, the stones, and the necklace length. Read on for a step-by-step guide to creating your own personalized Constellation Necklace…

1. Decide on your metal.

We offer our Constellation Necklace in platinum, sterling silver, and 14-karat white, yellow, or rose gold. Considerations here are totally personal. Platinum is a great option for its durability and because it will never tarnish, nor will it change tones owing to the fact that it’s a naturally white fine metal. If you’re looking for warmer tones, yellow gold or its slightly trendier cousin rose gold would be your best bet. If you’re shopping on a budget you can’t go wrong with sterling silver. You may need to polish it after a while, but you’ll get the best bang for your buck with this naturally white metal that will never rust or turn your skin green. Because I always gravitate to yellow gold, I selected our version in 14-karat yellow gold.

2. Choose your gems.

One thing I love about the Constellation Necklace is that you can choose your meaning for the gems. It’s a “cool mom” choice for a modern mama necklace; select a different birthstone for each member of your family. Or opt for an ombré  effect by choosing varied pink sapphires, red rubies, and brick-toned garnets. I also love the clean effect of all diamonds. I set ours with a varied selection of sapphires, emeralds, amethysts, and diamonds that we had on hand for a colorful result that stands out just enough.

3. Choose your chain.

The Constellation Necklace comes standard with a lightweight cable link chain but we can put the mounting on just about any type of chain you choose. We offer chains in platinum, sterling silver, and 14-karat gold (white, yellow, and rose, of course) and we can walk you through the multitudes of chain options that would work best with this style. Ours features a cable link chain but I personally love the idea of a diamond-cut beaded chain to accent the sparkle in the Constellation.

4. Measure your length.

I keep calling this a necklace but SPOILER: it can be a bracelet, too! Are you looking for a collar-length necklace or do you prefer something a little longer? You decide how long you want your chain and we’ll do the rest.

5. Optional: Spring for the earrings.

What’s better than one Constellation? Two! This design is also available in earrings and you can customize those exactly the same way as the Necklace (minus the chain, of course). If you love the set, maybe this is a good opportunity to start dropping some very early holiday gift hints? The season will be on us before we know it! (I say this as I’m writing this in a bathing suit next to a lake, but you know what I mean.)
