Double the Style: Citizens of Humanity + Freda Salvador Trunk Show

We’re developing a theory that when it comes to trunk shows, two is better than one. Pairing brands together just makes sense, and a few weeks ago we had a fantastic lineup with Monbouquette Jewelry and Tanya Taylor.

This weekend at The Hive/The Shoe Hive, we’re spotlighting another perfect pairing: Citizens of Humanity and Freda Salvador—two California-based brands that embody effortless West Coast style. And really, what goes better together than denim and a pair of boots or loafers? The answer is nothing.

We’ve carried Freda Salvador for over a decade, and every year the collection just gets stronger. Customers especially love the Brooke boot—a water-resistant lug sole style you can walk in for miles—and their timeless loafers. I’m especially thrilled about the return of loafers this season. They remind me of fall trips with my grandmother, who always bought me a new pair of Bass Weejuns and tucked shiny pennies into them before I headed home. That tradition gave me my love for classic, preppy shoes.

Freda Salvador itself is an inspiring story, founded by Cristina Palomo Nelson, a third-generation shoemaker, and Megan Papy, a former stylist for Calvin Klein. All their shoes are handmade in Italy or at Cristina’s family-owned, female-operated factory in El Salvador. (For a behind-the-scenes peek at how they’re made, you can check out this feature.)

This season we have plenty of favorites in-store, plus special-order samples of their most popular styles. My personal pick? The Robyn boot. It was a hit last year in black leather—comfortable, chic, and the perfect little heel—and now it’s back in black croc, brown croc, and a striking snake print.

Pair these with the always-flattering Citizens of Humanity denim, and you’ve got an outfit made for everyday life. Griffin from Citizens will be at The Hive Thursday, and to sweeten the weekend, all Citizens jeans and Freda shoes will be 20% off, October 2–5.

Owner | The Shoe Hive/The Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
