The Hive Staff Picks: Favorite Gifts Under $100

Yesterday, I shared my Plaid Friday shopping tips, i.e., where to get the best deals and savings. I highlighted the “Gift Section” at The Shoe Hive as a great place to shop, because we rarely mark down these items since a candle is always in season.

When I attend the NY Now Gift Show and the Shoppe Object shows twice a year; they are the two markets I’m always the most excited to be at. As I walk the halls with Rebecca and Annette, they pull me away from booths with things we can’t carry– but I never get discouraged. I know at some point I will break them, and they will let me buy all the random things I love so much. For instance, this year we have a bit of a food section. Who doesn’t love chocolates, hot chocolate, marshmallows and of course, candy packaged to look like mini sushi? Tell me these aren’t the perfect little Christmas notions!

Then of course there is the kids' section with rainbow purses, hair clips, gummy bear key chains and a customer favorite, unicorn snot (you have to see it to believe it). We really do take the show seriously and try to find great gifts at great prices. There are beautiful candles, matches, puzzles, note pads and so much more. It’s shocking how much we can pack onto our back shelves. At Christmas time, we have to bring out extra tables for all our finds.

I asked everyone at the stores to pick their favorite gifts for under $100. Sometimes you just need a little something to thank someone for teaching your kid, coaching your kid, having you over for a party or maybe something for a white elephant party. Even my family gift exchange has a budget, so these are all perfect. And shop Plaid Friday for an even better deal!

Owner | The Hive, The Shoe Hive, and Yellow Jacket

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
