The Hive Welcomes Proenza Schouler

I have always loved clothes. As a kid, I would read fashion magazines and dream of one day owning the beautiful dresses that stared back at me on pages. As you age, you realize the fashion magazines aren't reality, but I still love looking at them. It is my escapism. Just like looking on Net-A-Porter and Neiman Marcus online, I know I can't afford haute couture and have no place to wear them, but I still love looking at all the collections.

One of the lines I have always admired is Proenza Schouler, especially the bags. So when an email from the brand showed up with market dates for their showroom, I thought, "what harm could it be just taking a peek?" I know we are not ready for Proenza clothing, but I did think we could carry their more casual clothing line, White Label, which was launched back in 2019.

Since they started as a bag line in 2002, I figured that was a great way to start as well. Yes, they are an investment, but they are beautiful bags and timeless silhouettes that you will have for years.

The company was founded by Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez after they studied together at Parsons School of Design. The company is named after their mothers' maiden names, and I have to admit I have always wondered where the name originated. Since 2002 they have expanded to shoes and Ready-to-Wear. Along the way, they picked up an Accessory Designer of the Year award and 3 Womenswear Designer of the Year awards from the CFDA. Not too shabby if you ask me.

It's carried at some of the finest retailers in the world (Harrod's, Neiman Marcus, Net-A-Porter) and now at The Hive. Stop in to see our selection. We hope you love it as much as we do.

Owner | The Hive and The Shoe Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
