The Sandal With A Cult Following
Last summer we heard from customers that we didn’t have enough sandals or enough dresses. So, when we went back to market last September, we were on the hunt for great new brands to fill these voids. Earlier in the year, we brought in K Jacques out of St. Tropez. Having been in retail for more than 18 years, it was one of the premier summer sandal lines I had seen in other boutiques similar to mine. And they were always sitting on shelves with another brand that I loved, and I heard great things about as well: Ancient Greek Sandals.
K. Jacques has been around for more than 125 years and is known for being timeless and elegant with classic style. I would say Ancient Greek Sandals is the younger, and might I dare say, hipper, version. Both lines are handmade using traditional techniques and are sticklers for quality. But they each have their own unique styles and point of view.
Ancient Greek Sandals was founded ten years ago by Christina Martini and Nikolas Minoglou. Martini was born and raised in Greece, has a BA in Footwear Design, and worked for Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton. Minoglou was born in London but raised in Greece, got his MBA from Babson College (in Boston, where I have spent some time), and ran his family footwear business before starting Ancient Greek Sandals.
Basically, they know what they are doing and have really great style and taste, and it shows in their brand. These sandals will take you through summer looking sophisticated and comfortable. I mean, does it get better than that? I am really excited to have these on our shelves, and I really wonder what has taken me so long to get them.
