There's Still Some Summer Left!

The nature of editorial is to always look ahead, so, yes, we are focused on fall fashion. Yes, we are all about back to school. But the truth is we still have some more summer weekends to enjoy (thank goodness!), and even with record-breaking rain, there is fun to be had. Here's what we'll be up to.

P.S., Don't miss out on the Tax-Free Weekend specials. Starting today and running through Sunday, Old Town Boutique District members will cover all taxes, regardless of price, as will Kiskadee in Del Ray. And mark you calendars for the Alexandria Sidewalk Sale, August 11-12, in Old Town and Del Ray.

I'm planning a week-long family reunion with cousins and kids at the beach this August. I never go to the beach without several books, which I voraciously read under a very large umbrella. This summer there are so many good books on my list, I'll have to read a book a day. My list is Tangerine by Christine Mangan; When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger; The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn; The Perfect Friend by Barbara Copperthwaite; and, The Family Next Door by Sally Hepworth.

I feel strongly that August should not exist as a "real" month on any work or school calendars. Our public calendars should jump directly from July to September and we should be able to return from our respective black voids looking mysteriously glowing, refreshed, and blissfully unaccounted for. Since that's basically impossible for us, Tim and I are doing the next best thing and closing the shop from August 22-25 so that everyone can take a breather. Tim, Nolan and I will be in Upstate New York for some rustic river relaxing, Ani is going to California for a wedding, and everyone else at our shop will be taking some needed R&R during the last few real days of summer!

I cannot wait to see The Avett Brothers play Wolftrap on the 15th. Amazing band + amazing venue = we can't lose. If you aren't familiar with the Avett Brothers, then do yourself a favor and check out Judd Apatow's HBO documentary, May It Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers. You'll be hooked, I promise!

Megan | 529 Kids Consign

Taking my boys to CHILDREN’S CLUB, an international trade show for childrenswear held at Javitz in New York City, to buy toys and accessories fall/winter for my 529! They are the best assistant buyers a girl could ask for! 🍎

I recently saw the Disaster Artist and loved it! Next up will be to read the book then watch an 11:59pm showing of The Room at the Landmark E Street Cinema. I love quirky and this story of Tommy Wiseau and “the worst movie ever” is quirky on steroids!

Elizabeth | The Hive & The Shoe Hive

So tomorrow I pack up and head to Falling Creek in North Carolina to take my son to overnight to camp for the first time. He is counting down the days and I of course will cry because I can’t believe he is old enough to leave me for a week. He is already asking for two-week camp next year. Blair and I are going to hang out in the mountains for a week and do a lot of nothing! I can’t wait.

Celeste | Kiskadee

I will go with the fam to Kings Dominion the last week in August during the middle of the week...no lines!
