The #1 Word To Describe Alexandria

Yup, you guessed it! Alexandria is described best as charming! As lifelong residents of Alexandria, we can attest to the fact that summer is one of the best times to experience all that this city has to offer. From strolling down the cobblestone streets of Old Town to kayaking on the Potomac River, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Here are some of our favorite ways to spend time in Alexandria during the summer months that all add to the charm of spending time here:

Explore Old Town's Quaint Streets and Local Shops

One of my favorite things to do in Alexandria during the warm weather months is to take a stroll down King Street and pop into the charming boutiques, local shops, and quaint cafes. Take a break from the summer heat and grab an iced coffee or a sweet treat from one of the many cafes with outdoor seating, or simply soak up the atmosphere and admire the historic architecture. Check out Misha’s, Mae’s, and JuiceBox Old Town just to name a few!

Savor Fresh Local Produce at the Farmers' Market

The Old Town Farmers' Market is a true gem of the community, and it's the perfect place to stock up on fresh local produce, baked goods, and artisanal cheeses. This year marks 270 years, which makes our local market America’s oldest farmers market held continuously at the same site! There's nothing quite like the taste of a perfectly ripe peach or a freshly baked loaf of bread. Plus, with its lively atmosphere and friendly vendors, it's a great place to run into old friends and catch up with neighbors.

Alexandria’s Street Festivals & Celebrations

Summer is festival season in Alexandria. From the Annual Alexandria Old Town Art Festival and Restaurant Weeks to the Alexandria Birthday Celebration that follows the 4th of July, there's always something going on to look forward to in town. At the end of this month, on May 21st, check out the Old Town Speed and Style Festival! Lower King Street will be blocked off and the streets will be filled with dozens of exotic cars and car enthusiasts. It’s just one of the many street festivals Alexandria will enjoy this summer.

There’s a reason Alexandria was named a Condé Nast Traveler Top 5 Best Small City in the US! Anyone who knows us knows that we sell more than just a house, we sell the community of Alexandria and love to share what makes this town so special.
