Velvet: On Trend, Classic...or Both?

When does a “trend” become a classic? Velvet has been prominent on the fashion runways for three or more years. Designers love the luxurious fabric! In fact, velvet was an extremely popular fabric among the Renaissance fashionistas, both men and women alike. Since velvet has been worn in various forms for millennia, shouldn’t it be designated a full-fledged classic? We at Kiskadee believe so. Kiskadee has carried this deluxe, sumptuous fabric for years, knowing that it is no longer limited to cocktail and evening attire. Yes, it will always be a sumptuous fabric for fancy frocks but our take is a bit more casual and perfect for everyday attire, now and through to spring!

Color Story

Although velvet will always stay chic in navy and black, the colors this season may be the true trend this season…vibrant chartreuse, violet, raspberry and spruce green. The crushed velvet in these tops by CP Shades showcase the physical properties and stunning good looks of this versatile fabric.

Velvet Background

During the Renaissance, velvet was adorned with gems and pearls and it still is! A trend loved at Kiskadee is embroidery and velvet is an optimal canvas. Velvet’s soft drape and natural sheen is a perfect venue for embroidery’s kaleidoscope of colors.

Simplicity

For all that may adorn velvet, sometimes simplicity is best. Velvet can stand alone because of its own wonderful texture, luster, and shine. There is no need to think…throw it on and go! This long duster can be used as a casual dress…whatever mood you are in. Velvet is truly a chameleon fabric and a wonderful addition to any fall wardrobe.
