Wedding Invitations 101, Part 2: Five Design Trends
OK, so we have plotted our course and have our schedule made (see part 1 for a refresher). Now it’s time to think about what those invitations will look like. This is the fun part, people. It’s where you get to put your personality on paper and it’s where your guests get a glimpse into your special day. To get your creative juices flowing, today I want to share with you five trends in – and more pretty pictures of – wedding invitations.
Metallic Foil
This is one of the largest trends in invitations today. Metallics in gold, rose gold, and copper are having their moment in the sun. While gold foil has been around for ages, it seems to be seeing a new renaissance. Whether used in small doses or large, in modern or classic designs, or on light or dark backgrounds, metallic touches make a big impact.
Handwritten Fonts
Talk about a way to show your personality! Handwritten fonts truly convey your sense of style. By using this element you can easily express the formality of your event in an extremely personal way. From classic calligraphy to bold brush lettering, the range of hand lettering is bigger this year than ever before.
Watercolor
Nothing says romance quite like watercolor. This is the latest trend to sweep the wedding invitation marketplace and I love it. The versatility of watercolor is stunning. Opt for a pale pink if you’re looking for something sweet and ethereal or go with bold grays on black for something a little more sophisticated and intriguing. What’s really nice about this trend is how much fun you can have pulling it through to all your day-of pieces.
Envelope Liners
If you’re looking for a little extra surprise or a bold statement to complement an otherwise simple invitation, consider the envelope liner trend. These are the first thing your guest will see as they tear open the envelope, so why not have fun with it? Envelope liners can be as simple as pulling through one of your signature wedding colors, adding a funky pattern, or maybe adding a detail that speaks to the wedding location or theme. Whatever way you go, they certainly infuse style and give your invitation a nice finishing touch.
Geometrics
It’s 2018 and geometrics are the thing. Triangles, squares, quadra decahedrons, or really anything with a straight edge or angle is on trend. Bring a bit of modernity to your wedding with these contemporary designs. Add bold color to amp up the edginess. (Pun intended!)
Or A Mix
And often an invitation features a combination of trends!
