Why Winter Weddings Are Trending: Embracing the Magic of a New Wonderland

As the seasons change, so do the trends in wedding planning. I know that because we receive numerous requests, we (thankfully) deal with the planners, (sometimes not as thankful) manage the mothers of the bride, and have the pleasure of being a part of a ceremony of love and commitment.

I've found it surprising that these past few years, at my restaurant, Hummingbird, winter weddings have emerged as the new choice for couples looking to create a unique and enchanting celebration.

Scanning through photos shared by outstanding photographers, such as (Igda Warner) a local favorite, I found some compelling reasons why winter weddings are becoming the new, hot thing.

The Mood

Winter transforms landscapes into a picturesque wonderland. The serene beauty of a winter day, with snowflakes gently falling or a crisp blue sky, adds a unique touch that makes wedding photos truly unforgettable.

Elegant Fashion Choices

One of the most exciting aspects of a winter wedding is the opportunity to wear fabulous, luxurious outfits. Brides can opt for stunning long-sleeved gowns, incorporating rich fabrics like velvet capes (which always remind me of a Hans Christian Anderson story), while grooms can choose stylish suits that complement the season; who doesn't love a Vampire Lestat cravat? Accessories such as fur (faux preferred) wraps, elegant capes, and tasteful gloves can elevate the overall look, making the bridal party stand out in their winter chic attire.

Cozy and Intimate Celebrations

Winter weddings often foster a sense of intimacy and warmth. With shorter days and  cooler temperatures, couples create a cozy atmosphere for their guests. Lighting is significant in this ambiance—think tapered candles, fairy lights, and soft, warm hues. I love seeing Hummingbird transformed and beautifully decorated with seasonal florals and twinkling lights, enhancing the celebration's warmth and charm.

Unique Decor Opportunities

Winter provides a wealth of inspiration for wedding decor. The possibilities are endless, from rustic elements like pinecones and greenery to more glamorous touches like metallics and crystals. I've seen couples embrace themes such as winter wonderland or cozy cabin vibes, and the decor can reflect the season's beauty. While Hummingbird offers an exquisite setting for these celebrations, I just marvel at what our friends at Picnics & Peonies design as backdrops. Combining her elements from pagodas to  pumpkins creates a magical space with creative ideas, making every corner photo worthy.

Availability and Cost-Effectiveness

If all this beauty wasn't enough, a convenient reason to consider a winter wedding is  the availability of venues and vendors. Many popular wedding locations and  professionals tend to have more open dates during the winter months, giving couples a  better chance of securing their dream team. Additionally, off-peak wedding seasons  can often lead to lower costs for venues, catering, and other services. This makes it easier for couples to allocate their budget towards other meaningful aspects of their wedding, such as a popular wedding gift we create for the bridal party. The thoughtful gift comes from our local chocolate shop on South Saint Asaph, Madame Coco. We've created the perfect lovely little bag with two options; alcohol or non-alcohol mini bottles of Brut Champagne by one of my favorite woman-owned Champagne houses, Laurent Perrier, or an Italian NA rose by Pima Pavé - paired with a delightful box of  Madame Coco's signature chocolate bonbons. And with that, now everyone wants to be at the wedding party!

Festive Holiday Spirit

Winter coincides with holidays; this festive spirit brings more joy to a wedding celebration. Venues are already celebrating and are already decorated! Score! You will spend less money on the decor, so guess what? You can put it towards those thoughtful chocolat gifts for your wedding party.

Incorporating these special touches and holiday elements into the wedding theme— makes a wedding not just a celebration of love but also a festive occasion that brings people together. With its breathtaking scenery, elegant fashion opportunities, and the ability to create a warm and intimate atmosphere, winter weddings quickly become the preferred choice for many couples.

As the trend continues to grow, winter weddings will undoubtedly hold a special place in the hearts of couples and guests, proving that love truly knows no season.
