Beauty with Purpose: Salon deZEN’s Mission for a Greener Tomorrow

At Salon deZEN, we take sustainability seriously, and it’s become a core part of our mission. Our dedication to reducing waste has led us to recycle an impressive 3,575.97 pounds of beauty waste this year alone—including hair clippings, excess color, used foils, and single-use plastics like gloves. But sustainability isn’t just about numbers; it’s about creating a positive ripple effect. By supporting businesses and brands that share your values, we can shape the world into the most beautiful place for all.

In today’s world, making sustainable choices isn’t just optional—it’s essential. Every time you choose a business like Salon deZEN, you’re voting with your dollars for a more sustainable future. Our efforts include recycling 95% of our salon waste through programs like SalonCycle, offering eco-friendly options like our Kevin Murphy refill bar, and even incentivizing clients to reduce plastic waste by offering a 10% discount on refills. Every small step counts!

One of the cool ways we contribute to sustainability is by repurposing hair clippings. At Salon deZEN, we ensure that every strand of hair is put to good use. Our hair clippings are collected and used for cleaning up oil spills—a vital environmental effort that helps protect our oceans and waterways. But that’s not all! The hair we collect is also transformed into bio plastics that can be used in various products as a sustainable alternative to traditional plastics. How awesome is that? By simply getting a haircut at deZEN, you’re not only refreshing your look but also supporting innovative solutions that help tackle pollution.

Another significant step we’ve taken to reduce our energy footprint is swapping out all of our traditional light bulbs for LED lighting. Did you know that LED bulbs use at least 75% less energy than traditional incandescent lighting? This change alone helps us conserve a massive amount of energy while providing our clients with a brighter, more eco-friendly environment.

Sustainability starts with simple, mindful actions. For example, limiting water waste is an easy but impactful habit. At Salon deZEN, we use Ecoheads on our wash stations, which reduce water waste by up to 65%. At home, you can make a difference by turning off the water while you shampoo or condition and shortening your shower time—every drop counts!

Air-drying your hair whenever possible is another great way to conserve energy. While heat styling tools are convenient, they consume a lot of electricity. Opting for air-drying, or using a microfiber towel to absorb excess moisture, can help you cut back on energy use while also protecting your hair from heat damage. It’s a win for your hair and the planet!

At Salon deZEN, we believe true beauty is rooted in how we care for ourselves, each other, and the planet. When you choose sustainable brands and salons, you’re contributing to a movement that’s about more than just looking good—it’s about feeling good and doing good for the world.

Together, through small, thoughtful actions, we can shape a sustainable and beautiful future for all. Let’s continue to create beauty that respects the world we live in!
