February Workshop: Psychology of Spending

Wellness goes beyond just exercising and eating well. At Alexandria Wellness, we put an emphasis on addressing all areas of your life including relationships, stress tolerance, mindset, language, sleep, habits, and accepting your body. For many people, stress tolerance is an area that often needs improvement. With our busy schedules, family demands, long commutes, finances, and never ending to do lists, it’s no wonder we feel like we just can’t get a handle on our stress. And one major source of stress: money. This is why we are excited to partner with SDFCU for a workshop on the Psychology of Spending.Overspending can lead to stress and anxiety, and take away from important saving goals, like a down payment for a house, college, or retirement. Making smarter spending decisions can help to lower the stress and anxiety surrounding our finances.  Understanding why we’re making certain decisions on a psychological level will help us to improve our finances and lower our stress.Do you ever wonder why you left the mall with $500 worth of clothes when you were not planning to get anything or why you bought one pair of shoes over another? It is not just personal preference. Psychologists have found there are several forces that govern our consumer behavior and cause us to make decisions that are not necessarily rational or in our best interest.Join us for this 45-minute workshop presented by SDFCU as we cover factors that commonly affect the psychology of our spending, including:

  • •The Role of Advertising
  • •Keeping Up with the Joneses
  • •Spending Habits
  • •Impulse Buying
  • •Bargain Hunting
  • •Retail Therapy
  • •Money as Love
  • •I’ll Worry About Tomorrow, Tomorrow
