You Asked, They Answered: How Do You Reset For Spring?
Spring fever. Spring cleaning. However you celebrate this glorious new season, one thing is certain - spring is the time our bodies, our closets, and our homes are calling for a reset. We want to dress for spring, decorate for spring, and light candles that make our houses smell like flowers. We want to be outside. We want to… just be. So we wanted to know how the women of Alexandria Stylebook reset themselves for spring. Here’s what they had to say:
Katelin, Family First Law: December is so busy, and the new year is even busier for my law firm. (People checking off that estate planning from their resolutions or having family law consults after someone found some text messages over the holidays).
Spring gives me a chance to really take a deep dive into my calendar and carve out some time to de-stress between cases over the next year. I plan out fun adventures with girlfriends, vacation time, times I can work remotely so that I can be on for my clients when they need me, and in between, I can recharge. I also pull out my spring and summer wardrobe; all the bright colors just put me in a refreshed frame of mind. This month I bought myself the cutest pair of Jimmy Choo denim slingback flats from Mint Condition.
Amy, Red Barn Mercantile and Penny Post: After a cold winter bundled up at home, we like to get outside as much as possible. Sixty to seventy degrees is my temperature sweet spot, so we like to take advantage of the weather and go for hikes, longer walks with the dog, maybe even camping if we find the time. It's a great time to shake off the effects of retreating from the cold and staying in bed.
Meaghan, Alx&Co: This is nothing novel, but I focus on my home when spring starts to approach. Open all the windows, light a fresh candle, deep clean the carpets, wash the dog bed, launder the sheets, and start buying flowers each week at the market. Basic, but effective to get a fresh start on the season.
Adrien, Alexandria Wellness: I am a Southern California girl. I literally spent many Christmas days on the beach. After about two weeks of the cold weather here, I begin to go "inward," spending more time than I would like indoors, in circulated air and away from the elements.
Right now, I am so excited to prepare for new beginnings, fresh starts, and simply more LIGHT in my days.
I spend much more time outdoors, whether as part of my fitness program or simply sitting outside in our front yard with Bill, our children, or a neighbor.
I LOVE the closet switch from fall/winter to spring/summer. LOVE. Simply the anticipation of opening up bins of clothes for warmer weather gives me joy. The lighter fabrics, brighter colors, and less clothing are a welcome change.
I open the windows at home and in my car much more in the spring, taking in the sunshine, rain, and crisper evenings, just because I am helping my brain take in a new beginning.
I will exercise outdoors more now, trickling in runs, jumps/rope, and any way to set my circadian rhythm for the day.
I meet more friends for walks, which are great exercise, yet more important, an essential part of my personal wellness to connect with good friends.
As a student of the importance of natural light on our health, in the spring and summer, I consciously aim for more natural LIGHT in my days. I take more 2-5 minute walks between meetings, I make sure to "look toward the sunrise" to set my circadian rhythm in the morning, and I open the blinds more now than I do in the winter.
Rachel, Helen Olivia Flowers: It probably comes as no surprise that the first thing on my mind when the weather turns is rehabbing all of my planters. The first pretty Saturday and I’m making the rounds to all the local garden centers and turning my back porch into a pretty little oasis. And then, celebrating my hard work with a glass of wine outside.
Jen Le, Salon Meraki: Every year, when I start to see crocus popping up in my yard, I know that it is time for me to reset my closet. I will go through my closet, my husband’s closet, and my kid’s closet to sort out all the heavy winter clothes and ski attire and stack them into different piles (to keep for next season, to donate, or trash). Then I go to my storage and pull out the spring and summer bins to begin sorting again. After the bins are empty, I then put the winter clothes back into the bins and put them back into storage. It can often take several days before I finish the entire process, but it is always so rewarding, because seeing spring dresses brings me joy. Anyone who knows me knows how obsessed I am with flowers. I love chasing spring blooms.
