What's in My Bag

Some folks say that eyes are the window to the soul. I disagree. I think the window to a woman’s soul is her purse. You can tell a lot about someone from what they carry around with them (no pun intended there).I always have a big purse for day-to-day use. Like everyone else, I am trying to do a myriad of things in a day and my purse tends to be the catch all, so functionality is essential. My bag obsession of the moment is the Mimi bag by Parker Thatch. I love the adjustable strap and I typically use mine as a crossbody. My main requirement is that I can fit my laptop, which I tend to take with me everywhere. It is my adult version of a security blanket. Since Angela decided to share her bag contents earlier, I decided why not join in the fun? So here it is: the good, the bad, and the ugly.

  1. An iPhone that is never charged and I leave behind places. My husband claims it is an outbound device only. I cannot confirm or deny that charge.
  2. Laptop that should be in a carrying case, but it never is, and I take it everywhere.
  3. An anniversary card from my husband I got back in April. I am not sentimental, but I am afraid if I put it in my desk I will toss in when I have a purge session; I have just kept it here. It was number twenty, after all.
  4. Appointed brand notebook and pens from Penny Post. I am always making lists and I love the feeling of crossing something off the list. These notebooks are my favorite. They come in different colors and types of paper: lined, graph, or plain.
  5. Krewe sunglasses. Clearly, I have a certain color and shape I like to buy.
  6. Hair stuff. My daughter has hair like mine, so we are always trying to pull it back. The France Lux hair ties are my favorite and don’t leave a line in your hair. The headband is for when Blair has sports and, well, I borrow it too.
  7. The container that contains way too many things like allergy pills, Band-Aids, Neosporin, and so much more. It is basically my emergency kit. Chargers qualify as an emergency item.
  8. This might be the most random item. I over-donated to a run-a-thon for my niece and one of the prizes was this sweatband. She was the number one fundraiser and she passed this prize on to me.
  9. Keys. One is my actual set of keys, similar to what Schneider had on One Day at a Time; the other is a bag of keys I carry around to figure out if they work at one of the stores. Clearly need to put this on my to-do list in the Appointed notebook so I can mark it off.
  10. Wallet. I think I have had it for 10 years and it is pretty much in perfect condition. I also like that it is a bright color so I can see it in my bag.
  11. Blair's necklace from her spring performance. It was handed to me and I have not yet dealt with it.
  12. Mind the Mat hat and softball photo. I always have a baseball hat with me. Bad hair days are no problem.
  13. Makeup bag. This one appeared after Angela got her hands on my purse. I have started to use it more now that I can see all the contents. The prior version was scary.
  14. When you cross the 40-year mark, if you haven’t yet, you’ll get these, too.
  15. Too much of this category to write, but it is the ever-present receipts I have to keep in case of an audit, head phones, random lollipops my kids grab at all different locations and I take from them, tickets, and so on.
