A Healthy Winter in Del Ray

I love my neighborhood all year but it’s especially wonderful in the winter. This is also the time of year, after a crazy holiday season, that I try to regroup and focus on taking care of myself. Luckily for me, there are so many wonderful, healthy options in Del Ray! There is absolutely nothing better on a cold day than sweating it out at a Hawt Pilates class at Mind the Mat. I’ve neglected my core for the last year but that’s changing now. I try to make the 6am class on Mondays with Megan Lipera and now the 8:15am class on Thursdays with Shara. Life is crazy and busy but you have to take care of yourself. I love carving time out of a busy week for these classes. Note, I even love them in the summer! Speaking of working out, Ascend Cycle is perfect right now. Well, it’s always perfect but especially so when it’s cold outside. I love to add a spin class to my routine for some non-impact cross-training. Another reason to love Ascend in the winter? They do their absolute best to keep classes going when there is inclement weather. Remember that crazy snowstorm in January 2016? Well, one of the instructors could walk there so there was class! I was so relieved to get a work out in and get out of the house. Bonus? I can walk there. Another one of my favorite local places is Bon Vivant. I love their almond flour quiches…so good! I also love their Golden Milk drink. It’s a super delicious warm almond milk drink with turmeric and a small bit of honey. It’s the only place I know of that sells it. I try to have one once a week. The anti-inflammatory benefits are amazing. Another healthy favorite is Del Ray Café. I don’t know how they do it, but their egg white omelets are delicious. Both places offer salad with the breakfast, which I just love.
