Red Carpet Celebrities on Menopause

With the Tony Awards this month, I’m looking forward to the fashion and the drama. But do you know what's another red carpet topic? Menopause. Yes, I said it. It's not some dirty word we should avoid; it's something we should celebrate. Think about it…it’s a rite of passage, a whole new chapter in life that deserves a round of applause, not awkward whispers.

Menopause is just part of life for women. It's a chance to embrace change and celebrate what we have achieved and have yet to achieve. Plus, it's a sign of the wisdom and experience we've gained over the years.

Let's give a shout out to the celebrities who are flipping the script on how we view menopause. These influential women are saying, "Hey, let's talk about it!" They're breaking down barriers and discussing menopause openly.

Read what these A-listers have to say about reaching the prime of their lives.

Halle Berry: Recently, Halle Berry has been outspoken about her experiences in perimenopause and how her doctor misdiagnosed vaginal dryness, a perimenopause symptom, for an STD! She has shared her journey, emphasizing the importance of self-acceptance and embracing change. Through interviews and social media, she has shared how she's navigated this transition with grace and positivity. Berry has encouraged women to prioritize their health and well-being during menopause and to celebrate the strength and resilience that come with it.

“I'm challenging all those stereotypes about how you have to look a certain way or feel a certain way. I have zero blanks to give anymore.”

Kim Cattrall: Kim Cattrall has been refreshingly candid about her experience with menopause. In interviews and public appearances, she has shared her challenges and embraced the changes that come with this phase of life. She's been an advocate for open conversations, encouraging women to embrace their bodies and prioritize self-care during this transition.

"I don't think it's shameful. It's as natural as having a child — it really is; it's part of life. Physically, it's part of how we're made; hormonally, it's how we're constructed; chemically, it's how we work. Like anything in nature: The seed is planted, it grows, it comes to fruition, after a period of time it starts to change and age, and it's scary. You wonder, Will I be attractive, desirable, feminine? What is the next chapter of life? I think one of the reasons why it's so taboo is because we don't talk about it — it's too frightening even to talk to a doctor about it. I want to reach out to women to encourage them to educate themselves about this time in their lives."

Salma Hayek: Salma Hayek has also been vocal about her journey through menopause. She's used her platform to raise awareness about the physical and emotional changes that women go through during this time. Whether through interviews or social media posts, Hayek has shared her personal experiences and offered support and encouragement to other women facing similar challenges.

"There's no expiration date for women. That has to go. Because you can kick ass at any age. You can hold your own at any age, you can dream at any age, you can be romantic at age. We have the right to be loved for who we are at the place that we are. We're not just here to make babies, we're not just here to baby the man. We're not just here to service everything and everyone around us and then when the kids go away … it's almost like an expiration date for you as a woman. It's a misunderstanding that has been going around for centuries."

Oprah Winfrey: Oprah Winfrey has used her influential platform to spark conversations about menopause and women's health. Through her media empire, she's hosted conversations, invited experts to share insights, and discussed her experiences with menopause. Winfrey has been a vocal advocate for empowering women to prioritize their health and embrace the changes that come with aging.

"So many women I've talked to see menopause as a blessing. I've discovered that this is your moment to reinvent yourself after years of focusing on the needs of everyone else."

Shania Twain: Shania Twain has openly discussed her menopausal journey, sharing her experiences and insights with her fans. In interviews and through her music, Twain has addressed the physical and emotional aspects of menopause, emphasizing the importance of self-care and staying true to oneself. She's encouraged women to embrace their bodies and celebrate their unique journeys through menopause.

“I think menopause was a very good thing for me because there were a lot more things changing in everything about me physically that I had to very quickly come to terms with. Menopause taught me to quickly say, ‘You know, it may only get worse. So just love yourself now. Just get over your insecurities — they’re standing in your way. And fear is standing in your way.’ I always sing about being fearless and all of that. I go there when I write. But I’m not living it the way I’m writing it. And I want to live the way I write. I’m more fierce than I ever was because I really demanded it about myself.”
