AGL Trunk Show at the Shoe Hive: February 27 - March 2

I mentioned this last week, but the longest standing brand at The Shoe Hive is Attilio Giusti Leombruni (AGL). In 2003, someone literally walked into my little store on Royal Street with a suitcase of shoes and sold me a brand I had never heard of before. They had just opened up distribution in the United States, and I was one of the first two stores to write an order.

Over the past 21 years the brand has built a very loyal following for many reasons. First, they are made in Italy which means they are quality and comfortable. There are few shoes I can stand in all day, but AGL is one of them. The Italians are known for shoes for a reason; they know how to make them. They are female-owned and a third generation family-owned business. It’s run by three sisters that each run a different part of the company. They know what women want when it comes to shoes and it shows. I’ve been to their factory in the La Marche region of Italy and it doesn’t take long to see how missional the company is.

At the retail level, you don’t find AGL everywhere. Yes, they are at Nordstrom, but typically it’s their more “traditional” styles — which I also love but I’m glad we can also carry some of the more fashion forward styles. Oftentimes we might select a color and style that is unique to us.

The AGL team are also great people and great partners. Hosting a trunk show is a little more logistically challenging when it comes to having shoes: not as easy to coordinate, ship and harder for the brands to have as many sizes and styles. Especially when it’s a small company like AGL. But they continue to make it work despite the challenges.

It’s companies like AGL that have helped The Shoe Hive grow and thrive in difficult times. This weekend we will kick off our Spring Trunk Show Series with AGL.

I like starting our show series with a shoe brand since that’s where it all started for us as a company. We just unpacked the rest of our spring order and they have sent us styles we don’t normally carry in store. We can also order certain styles we have in different colors. Click on this Lookbook link we made so you can pre-shop. As a shopper, I always like to know what’s there ahead of time.

The best part – all AGL is 20 percent off from February 27 through March 2.

Stop in and see us and help us kick off the spring season!

Owner | The Hive and The Shoe Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
