Extending Your Wardrobe: Summer Pieces That Carry Over to Fall

Boots in summer? Why not? White after Labor Day? Yes - all year round! I’ve never been one to play by fashion rules. Why should seasons be any different? Instead of storing your favorite items, consider extending their wearability.

Old Town Alexandria recently hosted its annual sidewalk sale, an opportunity for retailers to shed summer inventory and make way for fall. As our team prepped for the sale, we also played dress up, reimagining all the ways to wear some of our current favorite pieces into the fall. White lace layered over tights or a buttery-soft pair of leggings. A chic, floral, silk evening dress easily made fall-apropos with the addition of a leather jacket over the shoulder and a closed-toe heel instead of a sandal. (And don’t get us started on the versatility of the caftan! We’re not putting ours away just yet!)

Here are just a few of the pieces we’re getting creative with as we head into this transition period (spoiler alert: keep scrolling for details around our semi-annual mega sale we’re running through the end of August).

STRAPLESS DRESSES

It’s hard to imagine strapless silhouettes in sub 70-degree weather. But, try adding a leather cropped jacket over the shoulders and a closed-toe black patent leather heel, a combination that transforms even the most cheery of floral prints into moody and fall-wedding-guest-ready.

(Tip: add heavier metallic accessories like the American In Paris Bespoke Clutch shown here; it will add weight to the look which will ease the transition out of summer).

WHITE LACE

Are you cringing at the mere sight of those two words in a fall fashion article? We are obsessed with white and cream lace paired with tights or black leather leggings and a chic boot (ankle or tall!). Check out the way our team styled this dress. On the left, with our Redondo Frydman flats for a late summer look; on the right, with sheer tights, custom polo boots, and a lightweight draped vest. (Need we remind you the name of the song by the Queen of Boho herself? Siri, play Leather And Lace by Stevie Nicks.)

Love this dress? It (and other similar styles) will be 50% off during the Labor Day Weekend White Sale — beginning Saturday, 8/31.

SILK SEPARATES

We created a line of silk leisurewear sets that are literally made for year-round dressing. Pants, shorts, and sleeveless camisole tops that feel like second skin and can be mixed up or matched for a classic monochromatic look.

Some of our customers splurge on these sets to enjoy as indulgent sleep sets, others wear them for business travel and pair them with a blazer, then later re-purpose the separates for individual outfits to maximize their packing. (They also make an amazing, customizable, bridal party gift). Our leisure sets are so versatile, can be dressed up or down, and layered to really transition through the seasons.

Select American in Paris Silk Leisurewear Sets at 40% off beginning Saturday, 8/24

Visit American In Paris this month for your last chance to shop our summer pieces — and at sidewalk sale prices! We’re extending the sale through the entire month of August! Each week beginning on Saturday, we’ll be discounting a different category of summer merchandise. While we never want summer to end, we’re getting pretty excited about all of this fall layering and we need to clear some space.

We have some exciting fall events lined up. Subscribe to our email list to stay up to date. Promise, we don’t spam. We only tell you about the good stuff. xx
