Meet Garrett, Our Salon Foster Dog In Need Of Help

garrett copy.jpg

Where shall I start? At the beginning, I guess. All of us at Claude Marcel have grown to love Garrett and we all want to help him... and I'll tell you why!

Last February, our salon director Jessica found a post on NextDoor that a rescue dog was in need of a foster home to rest and relax before surgery. I had just put my 13-year-old Labrador, Louis, down in December 2020 and was missing him sorely. Jessica sent me the post and I immediately noticed Garrett was the same yellow color as Louis. I instantly felt a connection with him. Having just arrived on a transport from Texas to Northern Virginia, he looked like he needed some love, support and stability. I was on it!

After contacting the Little Black Dog Rescue Group (thelittleblackdog.org), which serves D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia, I met Garrett in person. He was a bit shy, but friendly and eager to meet me. I reached out to him and we made contact instantly. It was love! I was made aware Garrett was in need of hip surgery. He was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia. My heart broke for him, but I promised him I was going to help get him whole. As the months passed, The Little Black Dog Rescue Group has been busy raising money for Garrett's new hips... but they are not cheap! And here we are, still short. I promised Garrett and I'm going to stick to it.

Claude Marcel salon is teaming up with The Little Black Dog Rescue Group and other Old Town businesses to raise money for Garrett's new hips. We really wish for him to live a full, and active life running and playing the way he should. We all want the best for Garrett who has not had the best luck in his short two years.
