Bembein Bags: Evoking Nostalgia With Perennial Style

It is funny how things work out sometimes. Earlier this spring, one of my friends/customers sent an email recommending a really cute handbag line. I loved it, and the more I looked, the name just seemed to ring a bell. I couldn’t remember why, but I for sure knew about it. Then I searched my point of sale and found an order I had placed back in February that was due to arrive this fall. The line is called Bembien, and I had happened upon it at a showroom, placed the order, and forgot.

Here is the thing about going to a showroom, you always find things you are anticipating. Typically a showroom has a “vibe,” so it makes sense that if you like one line there, you will probably like another one they represent. I was there for Janessa Leone, and well, the two brands really work well together.

Bembien was founded by Yi-Mei Truxes when she noticed a woman in New York City crossing the street with the perfect woven basket bag. It stopped her in her tracks. It was effortless, and she thought the year should be 1970 and the women should be on the coast of France. She couldn’t get it out of her head, so she decided to create that feeling with Bembien. Truxes had worked at Vogue for six years, so she knew the fashion world. She found a small village of artisan weavers in Bali, and the line was born.

We are so excited to introduce everyone to Bembien. I really haven’t seen anything out there like it, especially for the quality and the price. I am so excited to see their spring line in a few weeks. I know it is going to be a huge hit.
