Birds of Paradis by Trovata: "Let's give it a shot"
Most of the lines we carry at The Hive I have researched or watched for a long time. In some cases, I’ve even purchased them for myself at other stores for years. There are times when I decide I want to carry something (Isabel Marant, Rag & Bone, Stuart Weitzman, for example) and it can actually take months or sometimes years to either track them down or get approval to stock them. Then there are times when I literally just stumble upon a line and think: hmmm, this is pretty cute. I end up trying it out and boom, people love it. Maybe we can call it buying karma or just really good luck.I was once in a showroom that represents tons of lines we carry and I walked by a tiny rack and started flipping through. Their order minimums were low and they had some immediate inventory so I thought, "let's give it a shot." Well, the reaction has been amazing. The line is Birds of Paradis by Trovata. The line was a good “in between” spot that we were missing: Birds of Paradis isn’t as casual as Frank & Eileen or Wilt, but not as dressy as maybe an Ulla Johnson or Veronica Beard. It’s a good middle ground and a good price. [nemus_slider id="51830"]Birds of Paradis is run out of an old sail shop in Newport Beach, California and it was originally started out of a west coast dorm room. The founder started Trovata, a men's line, in 2000, and then created a dedicated women's line, Birds of Paradis, in 2012. It consists of basic silhouettes that they offer each season (to me this is a sign that the cut and fit work) that include tailored shirting, dresses, and knits. They are classic clothes in amazing fabrics and we can’t get enough of them.
