Bringing Back Alexandria Days: 22 Boutiques, One Big Celebration
My partners in crime when it comes to all things retail in Alexandria are Danielle of fibre space, Megan of Mint Condition, and of course, PR guru Maurisa Potts.
One day as we were preparing for a meeting, Maurisa shared something we all thought was both interesting and cool. Our meeting was on July 25, and she pointed out that on the same day in 1959, the city launched an event called Alexandria Days. It was a collaboration between the city and Old Town merchants designed to encourage shopping in downtown Alexandria during the hot summer months.
So, it turns out I wasn’t the first to dream up something like the Old Town Boutique District—shops in Old Town were teaming up decades before we came together ten years ago.
That revelation sparked an idea: maybe it’s time to bring back Alexandria Days. Since the Summer Sidewalk Sale already covers the warmer months, we thought fall was the perfect time.
Well, we did it, next Saturday, October 11, you can celebrate with 22 participating boutiques. All you have to do is stop in and each store will have something special going on in their store. See here for a list of participating stores and their individual promotions and hours. To give you a teaser of a few: Mint Condition is doing a Patch Bar where you can have a patch ironed onto your favorite denim or accessory and no purchase is required. At The Hive/The Shoe Hive you can book an appointment to shop with stylist Alicia McCaslin or build a Bloom Bomb with a purchase from 12 to 3pm. Head up King Street to Pippin Toy Co and have pouches and patches monogrammed from 11am to 1pm.
Shoppers will also receive a custom Alexandria Days tote bag with purchase, while supplies last. It’s going to be a wonderful day in Old Town—I can’t wait to see everyone strolling King Street with their colorful totes and a smile from all the fun!
