Beyond the Blazer: Why Veronica Beard is Still Our Favorite Tradition

I have said this before, but this is the trunk show that really put us on the map. I believe it was our fourth Veronica Beard trunk show when Sheila looked at me and said, “You aren’t selling blazers. You are selling joy.”

That show was so much fun. We had three people in each dressing room at a time; we were in our smaller location back then, and people were even trying things on in the little storage room! It was our biggest trunk show ever, and it remains our record-holder to this day. Ironically, it took place just one week before the COVID-19 closures began. As unimaginably long as those closures were, I often wonder if people somehow sensed that our togetherness was becoming scarce, because everyone in our little fashion-loving circle showed up that night.

The only event we’ve had that rivals that magical night in 2020 was when we opened the "big store" at 316 Cameron Street about two years later, and the Beard sisters came in person.

Next week, we are hosting our 10th Veronica Beard Trunk Show, and it is still the most anticipated event of the year. Throughout the years, the brand has continued to be a wonderful partner, sending us beautiful pieces and a member of their sales team to help our customers learn about the fit and assist with ordering from the spring collection.

I think the brand has always worked for us because of the blazers. Many of our clients work, and Veronica Beard makes the best blazers that can easily transition to jeans and a more casual lifestyle. I still order suits, of course, and they always send us great options. I love the Lois vest and Jude pant, and they are sending a customer favorite—the Marbeau pant—and the Miller jacket in the perfect petal pink. They also have an updated Miller in navy in a single-breasted version that I love.

Besides the suits, I also love their more casual jackets and outerwear. You might not pick these for me, but the Kasper jacket and Langham dickey coat are favorites. Of course, they always send a great event dress, and this spring it is the Ember dress in a beautiful blue floral. Their casual shirts are always big sellers, and over the last few years, they have really raised the bar with their denim. I’m planning to grab a pair of the Vicki wide-leg jeans for myself!

Needless to say, between our current inventory and the pieces they’ve sent, we have a great selection for spring. You can also place special orders, and the best part is that all Veronica Beard items will be 20% off.

If you want to work with the pros, Sabrina will be at The Hive Thursday late afternoon and most of the day Friday. Stop by starting Thursday, March 5th, through Sunday, March 8th, and shop the trunk show that started our love of trunk shows.

Owner | The Shoe Hive/The Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
