Guest in Residence at The Hive

When I am on buying trips, I tend to pick items for three different reasons. The first is, I see it and think, “I would wear that all the time.” The second is, “I can’t exist in this world without having that in my closet.” The third is, “That reminds me of something I wore growing up.”

It is why I have an affinity for rugby shirts, Bermuda shorts, culottes, and, of course, penny loafers. As a child of the ’70s, I also really love sweaters that have a vintage feel. Maybe a fitted crew with some detail around the collar, a great argyle, or my favorite: anything that has a collar—and if it is a stripe, even better.

I think that is why I was so drawn to Guest in Residence. Something about the styles reminded me of my childhood. Come to find out, most of the styles are based on vintage designs. When I realized the brand had a celebrity creator, I did pause. But once I entered the showroom and learned more about the collection created by Gigi Hadid, I had to order it.

I could tell the quality was great, the designs had that nostalgic feel but were also modern, and I hadn’t seen anything else like it.

This fall is our first delivery, and I could not be more excited. We are bringing an even bigger selection for the holidays as well. If you love a great sweater, you will love Guest in Residence.

Owner | The Shoe Hive/The Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
