Stepping Into Spring: The Shoe Lookbook at The Hive

I know that folks come in and often remark we don’t have as many shoes as we used to carry. This allegation was untrue until recently. Besides Sam Edelman, since consolidating to one location, we had the same number of styles, but this spring is different. We have for sure downsized our shoe catalog this time. One reason is, well, the ones we have carried in recent seasons have not been selling like we hoped.

So we are in the process of figuring it out this spring. We edited our selection down to our favorites and hope our customers agree. Two shoe lines that have surprised us with their popularity are Rachel Comey and Ann Mashburn. Rachel Comey knows how to do a cog, and this spring we picked two of their newer styles along with a great pump that literally goes with everything.

Freda Salvador has become our most popular line and we will host an event next month so you can shop more styles. This season we got their two styles that always sell out on line, the Laurel and Sera. I love the new fabrications. My favorite, however, is the Monday. You know if I ordered a shoe in two colors I personally love it. I am hoping the thick sole solves all of my foot pain issues.

The shoe brand that has shocked us all in its popularity is Ann Mashburn, mainly because it is a clothing line and they just started doing shoes a few years back. They started with the bucket flat which everyone still adores. Most people who buy them own them in multiple colors. A spring favorite is the Diagonal Strap Sandal and I am excited for the Chloe Sandal in a great red.

You already heard about AGL and our event earlier this week but the black strappy sandal with studs is my favorite and look for our expanded selection this weekend at our trunk show.

Another addition to this spring is TKEES. We carried it back to 127 South Fairfax. Customers have been asking for us to bring it back and we listened. It’s the perfect summer flip flop and they added a great little kitten heel, which is the biggest trend for this year, as you know if you’ve been keeping up with your magazines or Insta. Even in the dead of winter everyone had them on inside showrooms.

Come shop all of our latest arrivals for both clothing and shoes, and check out our new look book here

Owner | The Shoe Hive/The Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
