Step Out in Style: The AGL Event at The Hive

It is time for our first shoe event of the year, which is fitting because AGL is the first event we ever hosted at the store. I have mentioned before that AGL is the only brand we have in store that was on our shelves when we opened in 2003. I have a special attachment to this company and was proud to take my family on a tour of their coastal Italian factory when the kids were little.

They are a female-owned and family-owned business. In fact, the three sisters that run the company are the third generation to do so.

You might have noticed we don’t have as many styles of AGL as in prior years. We are in a rebuilding process with AGL. If you came to our Warehouse Sale this winter you noticed very large stacks of them - which is typically a sign that a brand is struggling or in transition, at least.

But we do not want to give up on them. They are just too good to do that. The shoes are that high quality and the people who own the business are too great, so I am going to figure this out. I picked my favorites for spring, sadly a few that I selected did not make the cut for production.

Typically when you reduce your selection or skip a delivery, a brand isn’t as willing to host an event. But AGL is different and they are as committed to having their product on our shelves as we are to having them.

Here is how this year will work: they have sent us styles that we don’t have in store but that they have in stock. They also sent us samples of other colors they have in stock in those styles that we can order, to give everyone some more options. It will take about a week for shoes to arrive and then the best part, all AGL is 20% off.

Some come shop – It is one of the best brands we carry. All made in Italy from Italian leathers by hand, the way they have been since 1958.

Owner | The Shoe Hive/The Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
