The Plaid Friday Gift Guide from Lauren Bishop

Our community would not be what it is without our Realtors—I have said it before and I will say it again. Go to any sporting event, fundraiser or festival and it almost certainly is happening thanks to the support of a local Realtor. I don’t know where our town or the small business community would be without them. I have a list of realtors on speed dial who I know will help out whenever we come calling, which is often.

Realtors also always make it a priority to shop local themselves. When you go to a home showing or an open house and you see a well-dressed agent or broker, there is a high chance they know their way to The Hive and our town’s other great boutiques. Realtors understand that what makes our town such a great place to live is the locally owned businesses that make our town feel like a community.

This holiday season, we once again asked Lauren Bishop to sponsor Plaid Friday—the small business community's answer to competing with the big-box stores on Black Friday. We have discounts too, but our celebration is just so much more civilized.

To check out a list of what stores are doing in Old Town, visit the Old Town Boutique Community website.

Since Lauren has amazing taste (you know this if you see her walking down the street or have been inside her gorgeous home) I asked her to give us her shopping guide for Old Town. Check it out:

We hope to see you on Plaid Friday!

Owner | The Shoe Hive/The Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
