Tibi Spring Arrivals at The Hive

It has taken a bit, but as I write this, all but one spring item from Tibi is now in store. As usual, we tend to fish with a wide net and have so many great styles on our shelves. It’s difficult for me to pick favorites; honestly, there isn’t much from Tibi that I don’t love or own. I have been making an effort to order less Tibi for myself because my closet is a little out of control. I have failed this spring at doing so—I always joke that I am not a very good quitter.

I thought I would highlight some of my favorites from spring. There are a few pieces I didn’t order because I already own them from seasons past and know I’ve worn them on repeat. For your purposes, if something is an item I wear often, it must be good—because I have a lot of options.

Pick #1: The Perfect T Vintage Sweatshirt in White or Heather Grey

You may wonder, “Why would you pay this much for something you could possibly order from a less expensive brand?” I am here to tell you, if you try to replicate it, it won’t be the same. I wish you could feel fabrics through an email, because then you would agree with me. It is the perfect weight—somewhere between a T-shirt and a sweatshirt. It also wears like a sweater, so when you want to elevate something casual, this does the trick. It is worth every penny, I promise.

Pick #2: Nylon Zipper Trouser in Dark Taupe

I own the jogger version from last year, but for some reason I like the trouser a tad more. It isn’t a pull-on—hence the name “trouser”—and is a bit more tailored. If you want a great option for spring that isn’t a jean and isn’t a short, you need this pant. It’s easy to wear while running errands or sitting on the sidelines—you won’t look too dressed up, but it’s also perfect for work. I realize the zipper detail might not work for all environments, but if you have a business-casual office or a more creative job, I think they’re perfect. Add a tank and a heel, and you’re ready for dinner out.

Pick #3: Crinkle Shirting Easy T and Button-Down in Navy

I also didn’t buy these this season because I own both from a few years ago. They are so lightweight that they’re perfect for summer days when you want to be covered up. The texture also makes them interesting, so when your outfit feels a little flat, this is what you need.

Pick #4: Calcimine Denim Midi

This is the one item that has not yet arrived as I write this. It was my favorite piece from spring. I am not typically a denim skirt person—I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s my overuse of them in my ’90s wardrobe—but this one had me at hello. When you see it, you aren’t quite sure if it’s denim. Like I mentioned above, sometimes you look in the mirror and feel a little dull, or like your outfit is missing something. The cut of this skirt, along with the fabric, solves that. It isn’t a print—each piece is dyed and finished using a custom tumbling technique that creates subtle texture and depth, making every skirt unique.

Pick #5: Leather Pull-On Shorts and Zip-Up Hoodie Jacket

I did order both of these items, despite having owned them in the past. I have the pull-on leather shorts in cream and wear them all the time. I used to own the black pair and have a photo from my 50th birthday wearing them—but now I can’t find them, and it haunts me. They are the perfect weight and flattering on everyone. I know not everyone wears shorts, but if you do, you should buy these.

Then there is the jacket. It is an investment, like many Tibi items, but it is really good. It is incredibly soft and has that perfect slouch and ease. You will own it forever. If you have a daughter, she will steal it from you at some point. I’m putting an AirTag in my pocket so when I can’t find it, I can check if it ended up at Denison University with the rest of my money.

Owner | The Shoe Hive/The Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
