TKEES is Back & Better Than Ever at The Hive
Oddly, one of the brands we’re most often asked to bring back is also one of the most inexpensive lines we’ve ever carried: TKEES. Until now, nothing we’ve carried from their line has been more than $100. Ironically, the shoe that made me realize we needed to bring them back—the Julia—is more than that at $160, but it’s worth the price.
The Julia is a new style for them, and it reminded me of a Sigerson Morrison flip-flop that I sold roughly a million pairs of back in 2003 and 2004. Then last spring, I was at Citizens of Humanity, and Griffin was wearing essentially that same shoe—a flip-flop with a little kitten heel. Of course, she paired it with another huge trend: long, baggy jean shorts. I’m not sure I could pull this look off, but I might give it a try.
When TKEES sent around their line sheets featuring the Julia—the kitten heel flip-flop—along with all their classic styles that everyone had been asking for, I went for it. We’re happy to welcome this brand back and to offer lots of options. The Lily is their first and most popular style, so we have it in many great colors, along with a new square-toe version in croc. The Marina is a great option if you prefer something that wraps around your ankle to keep it secure.
I feel like I should include a little PSA in this post: if you suffer from plantar fasciitis, these may not be the best choice. They don’t offer a ton of support. That said, they’re oddly comfortable for how thin they are—but if you have foot issues, I wouldn’t recommend them.
That said, most people love them and wear them all day. They were created in 2009 when someone couldn’t find the perfect barely-there flip-flop. It’s safe to say they nailed it.
