Emmy Awards 2019: Our Best Dressed
It was another eventful night at the Emmys on the red (actually purple) carpet and the stars showed up, but whether or not they showed up in style is up for debate. There were people that stepped way out of the box and took a risk {Dascha Polanco} and people that brought classic Hollywood glamour {Julia Louis-Dreyfus} which always makes for a fun-filled evening.TV was definitely feeling blue this year as we saw an abundance of the color in every hue from the faintest of baby blues to dark navy with some sparkle. Pastels were also out in full force with a lot of pale pinks, and even a delightful mint green. Interestingly there were multiple dresses in a pink and red combo which was a twist to the usual red dress look. While the carpet seemed a little eclectic this year, there was one definite winner in our books, Michelle Williams. Almost everyone found her look spot on. Here are our best (and not so best) dressed...

Well I don’t know if I have ever been more disappointed by an awards show. I kept texting with Madelyn and Angela wondering if all the stylists had been fired. You know it's a bad night when Gwyneth Paltrow gets is wrong. So it was difficult to pick but I do have one standout...Julia Louis-Dreyfus was stunning. The dress, the fit, the hair and makeup were perfection. Second for me was Michelle Williams. I loved her dress. She always gets it right and thank goodness she did tonight. And my third is definitely Naomi Watts in an anything but basic black dress.

I watched the Emmy red carpet this year with increasing anticipation as each celebrity came on screen only to sigh with disappointment. Why are all the dresses so bad? Even Billy Porter who thrilled me at the Oscars last year arrived in a bad pinstripe zoot suit. There was clearly a bubble sleeve moment happening that made me scratch my head and say…why? The pink and red pairings were numerous. They were only outdone by the black and white pairings. Even those I normally love like Viola Davis (who can generally do no wrong in my eyes) missed the mark. When someone managed to show up in a dress that wasn’t terrible, their makeup or hair was sad enough to make me lose all hope. I thought Taraji P. Henson used way too much body shimmer and though I love Game of Thrones, Sophie Turner looked washed out by her light pink dress. Nathalie Emmanuel is one that almost made it - the dress was interesting, but her brows looked unkempt and the nose ring seemed to fight with the dress. Too bad, because it could have been a hit with better makeup. It just goes to prove that brows matter!Luckily there were a few exceptions...
M.J. Rodriguez
The hot pink of this dress with the black accents played nicely off M.J.’s skin tone. Further, the pink lipstick and slick straight hair were a nice compliment to the volume of the dress.
Ava DuVernay
I don’t know what it was about this look exactly. I think it was all of it. The dress, the hair, the makeup…it was perfection. She looked gorgeous and wore it effortlessly. Probably my favorite look of the night.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge
The dress was ethereal and her hair was done, but not stuffy. I would have liked a little more drama on the makeup since the dress was so pale, but overall a win.
Brittany Snow
This color was a dream. The dress was lovely and the makeup was complimentary. It wasn’t a wow moment, but in a year of so many misses…this was a home run.

There was a pink parade going on at the Emmys last night and I loved every piece of it! Besides pink being one of my favorite colors, it looked fresh and vibrant on so many celebrities. I would have to say Mandy Moore stole the pink show for me, with the off-the-shoulder pink bodice and body-skimming red skirt. Complete with soft waves and neural makeup, she truly looked radiant!
