The Evolution of Denim (and 30% off this Weekend To Get You Up to Date)

I opened the first store way back when denim had entered a new phase in the retail market. Luxury denim was the rage and brands like Rock & Republic, Hudson, and 7 For All Mankind reigned supreme. The waist was low slung, the bottoms were boot cut, and many of the back pockets had stitching. Denim typically seemed to be paired with very pointy heels and a little shirt. The shirts were often silk and could tend to look like an undergarment. Basically, it’s what Britney Spears still wears if you check out her Instagram, which I sometimes do.Next came the jeggings and the beginning of the bootie and ballet flat trends. This then morphed into a pencil jean. Pencils jeans then got some color and brighter seemed to be better.  Joe’s, Paige, and J Brand dominated, and every denim display looked like a Skittles ad.Next came the boyfriend jean craze; Current Elliot had the “must-have” version, if I recall correctly. Every thing got looser, then everything started to get distressed. Really distressed. My children still don’t understand how I get to wear ripped up jeans even though I throw theirs out when they tear. I try to explain that I pay extra for the holes in mine. Fashion logic is difficult for an eight-year-old male human to comprehend, it seems. All these trends happened just in the life cycle of The Shoe Hive, and, of course, none have completely gone away. We still have all the above options, now up the street at The Hive, and then some more added in. It can actually get a bit confusing: now we have the girlfriend cut, the crop flair, the straight leg, and so on.So we decided to break it down for you and give you a closer look at all the different styles and trends. We currently carry three brands in denim: Mother, Citizens of Humanity, and our newer addition, Veronica Beard. The styles listed below are not representative of our entire selection but we wanted to show you some of our favorites. My current choice for the “must-have” trend is the tuxedo stripe detail. I seem to not be able to pass up any pair we unpack. It is such a great time to freshen up your denim wardrobe and since we have so many great styles we decided to do a sale for President’s Day weekend; we didn’t want the car dealerships and mattress shops to have all the fun. Starting today, Thursday, February 15th through Monday the 19th, all denim will be 30 percent off! So come say hi before you head out of town or if you need something to do this holiday weekend, make a denim run!
