Father’s Day Quarantine Edition

My dad is a rock. Always has been. When things get tough, he is the voice of reason and the most optimistic in the room. I’m not sure if it’s the Air Force officer in him or the Quarterback. Either way, he has been a reassuring presence during the pandemic. When I start getting worried about the stores, he offers sound advice and encourages me to keep up the fight. And, when I get worried about, well, everyone, he lovingly reminds me of the circle of life and reassures me that he is okay and that we will all get through this. I’m a lucky woman to have this man in my corner. He gives a lot and asks for little in return. Which always makes it hard to gift him with anything on Father’s Day. Which, in case you forgot, is this Sunday! If you or your kids have a dad like mine and you don’t know what to get them, then we have a few good ideas for you…Let’s start with the Quarantine Dad. He’s working from home, he’s social distancing, he’s working puzzles and playing games with the kids, he’s grilling up a storm, and, if he’s like my husband, enjoying a cocktail to cope. The next dad loves baseball. Even though the Nats aren’t playing, he can still revel in their World Series victory with these coasters depicting the best plays from last season and enjoy our version of peanuts and cracker jacks with a beer.

Best Dad Ever nameplate, $30; NPR puzzle, $24; Social Distancing Club mug, $20; Quarantine Award ribbon, $6; Grilling card, $6; Right Where You Left Them keychain, $10; Bittermilk Old Fashioned mix, $19; Edward Lee’s Sambal Hot Sauce, $12.50; I’m Not Saying You’re Stupid game, $24

Golf is my dad’s religion and he goes to church every Saturday. While his usual course is closed, he has managed to get in a couple of rounds with friends here and there. Between the two stores we have a few things your golf-lover will enjoy – Blackwing pencils to keep score, carry on cocktail kits for their golf bags since the drink cart isn’t coming around anymore, and one of our best-selling books from golf loving, Bill Murray.

My husband has turned me into a camper. He and our son, Will, have been camping with the Boy Scouts since Will was a Webelos and have instilled a love of nature and the outdoors to me and our daughter, Kate. For all the outdoor loving dads, like my husband, we have several great gifts. The Camp Cocktails is a particular favorite, the leather-bound list of National Parks is a beautiful keepsake, the National Parks puzzle was so much fun to do, and the Shenandoah candle smells so good. Anything that smells good after a weekend of camping is always useful, trust me.
