Goodbye (for Now), Annette: Join Us in Sending Her Off
There are two reasons my store has been open for more than 21 years—and neither of them has anything to do with me. It’s the people who’ve supported us by shopping here, and the truly amazing people who’ve worked alongside me. If I had a dollar for every time someone told me how much they love working with Annette, I’d be a rich woman.
Which is why this post is so hard to write—because one of the truly great ones is moving on from The Hive.
Some of you already know, but we wanted to make sure everyone heard the news: Annette is moving back to Pennsylvania. She tried to do this once before, a few years ago, but I managed to trick her into staying. This time, no amount of begging could change her mind.
This is the hardest part of the job. We really are like a family, and when someone leaves, it hurts.
Annette has been with us for four years—starting just as we moved into our larger space. It didn’t take long to realize she could literally do anything. Always impeccably dressed, she understands clothing better than anyone who’s ever worked here—probably because she has the talent (and patience!) to sew her own. If something needs to be hung or fixed, she shows up with her toolbox. Over the past few years, she’s also taken on the role of Director of Merchandising, making the store look incredible season after season. Beyond her skills, she’s truly kind and funny, and immediately became close with Shannon and Madeline. Nothing makes me happier than seeing everyone on the team genuinely enjoy each other—even outside of work. Though I’ll admit, I get a little offended when I’m not invited... and sadly, it happens more and more as I age!
We’ve decided to celebrate Annette’s last few weeks rather than mourn them. So on Thursday, June 19 from 4–7 PM, we’re hosting a little going-away party at the shop. It’s a chance to shop with her one last time—or just stop by for a hug and goodbye. There’ll be drinks, treats, and of course, Annette.
To sweeten the send-off, we’re also offering 20% off all full-price items in honor of my birthday on June 20. We know many of you are gearing up for summer travel, so now’s the perfect time to grab that dress you’ve been eyeing.
I’m also sharing Annette’s schedule for the rest of the month (see above), so those who can’t make it Thursday can still stop in before she heads off to Philly. I’ll miss her terribly—and I know you will, too.
