5 Flower Farms to Visit in Northern Virginia This Summer

Last summer, I decided I needed to get out more. As in, I spent all day trapped indoors staring at a screen and I needed the sun on my face. For many of you, you may think my life is flower filled – and it is sometimes – but mostly it’s filled with staffing calendars and ordering spreadsheets. So, last summer I set out to reconnect with my love of flowers through visiting several gorgeous flower farms right in our backyard. In addition to soaking in a little country air, the views (and flower smells) were incredible. And, despite a little skepticism at first, my kids and husband also had a great time.

Here are my favorite picks for local flower farms that are easily drivable from Alexandria. And bonus, some of them even serve wine!

1. Burnside Farms

First up is Burnside Farms in Nokesville: a sunflower lover’s dream come true. Their annual Summer of Sunflowers event is a must-see, with over 30 acres of sunflowers in full bloom. You can stroll through the fields, pick your own sunflowers to bring some sunshine home, and take loads of gorgeous photos. They also grow other summer flowers, making it a colorful paradise.
