Joining Forces For Old Town’s Tax-Free Weekend

For years, Virginia has held a tax-free weekend in August to help families with back-to-school shopping. Needless to say, the weekends were huge hits. Well, for some reason, the state isn’t doing a sales-tax holiday this year. Of course, this bums me out – and I’m guessing many of you weren’t too happy to hear the news, either. 

So we, along with other Alexandria boutiques, decided to take matters into our own hands this year. Thanks to the help of Old Town Business, 19 stores have joined forces to host our own tax-free weekend, August 4 - 6. Participating shops will offer a 6 percent discount, which equals the amount of sales tax paid. But at our three stores – The Shoe Hive, The Hive, and Yellow Jacket – we’ll be sweetening the deal! On all purchases, we will take an extra 10 percent off on top of that discount.
