Meet Sophie Blake At The Hive
Those who know me know that I really don’t socialize much, even though I am an extroverted sociable person. My ideal night is sitting on the couch with my family and dogs in sweats. If I do go out, I prefer dinner at a friend's or drinks in someone's backyard. Events overwhelm me. But when Maurisa Potts invites you to go somewhere, you go. This fall she invited me to be her "plus one" at the Washingtonian's Style Setters launch party and I said yes.
I know some folks say Washington D.C. isn’t a fashionable metropolis, but let me tell you, they are wrong. As Maurisa introduced me around the room (she knows everyone) she helped me make a long overdue connection: Sophie Blake a local jewelry designer.
Of course, I had heard about Sophie and had been to her storefront in Mosaic District to see her collection but somehow we had never met. Fast forward to 6 months later and we are hosting our first-ever Sophie Blake Trunk show. We are so excited to host a local designer, but it doesn’t really seem right to use that phrase. She is big time – much bigger than “local” implies. Sophie just presented her collection at New York Fashion Week where she launched her second collaboration with clothing line Dur Doux and was chosen to be a part of the Accessories Council press day in NYC a few weeks back.
Sophie is a busy working mom who somehow seems to juggle it all with style and grace.
Her pieces are best described as modern-sophisticated and have an undercurrent of Art Deco style. She finds inspiration from many places like architecture and researching fashion history, especially from the 1930s. I love that all the pieces are handcrafted and produced in New York City.
We are so happy to host this trunk show and Sophie will be on hand to help you choose the perfect piece to add to your collection. The event will go from Thursday, April 13 through Sunday, April 16 and Sophie will be in store on Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm and Sunday from 1 pm to 4 pm. We hope you will stop by and see her beautiful work.
