Holiday Party Looks In The Big Apple

I have known Madeline a long time now, and one of the things I have admired about her is her strong friendships. Most of them are from her childhood days at St. Mary’s or high school at Bishop Ireton. I have always thought that long-standing friendships are a mark of a really quality person, so Madeline is clearly as good as they come. The other thing I admire is her sense of adventure and travel. I wish I had traveled more when I was younger, and I love following along on her Instagram and pretending I am there with her. I still want to replicate her Utah trip. One person that is usually with her on these adventures is her friend Myia. She has been in Alexandria the last few years, and when we needed someone to model some holiday looks, I knew she was the perfect person to ask. I knew it would be fun for both of them, and the pictures and styling would be amazing, and, of course, they are!

“They say if a friendship lasts longer than seven years, it will last a lifetime.”

I take my friendships very seriously. I met nearly all of my friends (seriously!) in middle school and high school, and I make it a point to keep in touch with all of them. Whether it’s talking on the phone once a year or catching up in person once in a blue moon, it is a top priority for me. I truly consider all my friends to be a part of my family.

Myia is no exception to this. Myia and I met in gym class in high school our sophomore year at Bishop Ireton (go Cardinals!) I remember the exact moment our friendship began. We bonded over a potential Destiney’s Child reunion tour and planned to go together, which sadly never happened. It’s always a joke between us because she claims to not remember this at all.

Over the past few years, we’ve grown into an inseparable pair. Myia is the friend everyone needs and wants in their life. She gives the best life advice and is always there to listen, not to mention she is one of my favorite people to talk fashion with.

When Elizabeth mentioned styling her for a holiday post, I was all in! Myia is a corporate lawyer at a firm in New York City, and, like the majority of the world, she moved back home during the heat of Covid. She finally moved back to New York City at the end of November – which just happens to be her favorite time of year: The Holidays!

I thought it would be fun to put together a few looks from The Hive and The Shoe Hive to take her to Christmas parties throughout the city. Get to know Myia and her fabulous style a little more below!

Owner | The Hive and The Shoe Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
