How To Style a Shirt Dress

So late February I was on a roll. With the help of Sheila, I had all the March posts written and designed. We spend a lot of time planning what we write about and at least a few times a month we try to do shoots for Stylebook. We had two big trunk shows early March, so we knew we had a ton of work in front of us, so we were on the ball. Alicia and Sheila styled a post on shirt dresses and Sarah Marcella worked her magic at Sheila’s beautiful home. Then everything changed and we started our virtual trunk shows, deals of the day, and of course Boutique Boxes, so everything got messed up. I was sitting there thinking, we spent too much time and effort to not use this beautiful post and Sheila had taken the time to write it - we had to make it work. Here is the thing, the shirt dresses will always be in style and we still have a ton in stock. Even better most styles are marked down. The L’Agence dress is sold out in both colors but available for special order.

Earlier this spring, Elizabeth tipped us off to some of this season's hottest trends and at the top of the list? The shirt dress. You are probably thinking the shirt dress has been around forever and what can possibly be so hot and revolutionary about this closet staple we have all grown to love due to its ease of wear and comfortable fit, so we wanted to show you what makes this season's offerings so special. Most every line we carry at The Hive has their own unique version of this classic style of dress. Some are casual while others are perfectly tailored and dressy; some are made of jersey blends that feel silky and drape beautifully while others are made of crisp cotton blends; some are midi-length and simple in design while others are short with voluminous sleeves; and some are solid in color serving as the perfect backdrop to showcase bold accessories and pops of color on your feet while others are made of colorful, eye-catching prints and stripes necessitating that simple jewels and sandals be worn. Pick your poison, and the designers have provided it for you this season.Alicia and I wanted to share with you some of our favorite shirt dresses and the different ways in which we chose to style them. We had so much fun pairing them with everything from sneakers to wedge sandals and carryall totes to clutches to demonstrate the range and versatility with this style of dress.
