In Need Of A Little Extra Credit?

We are excited to host our Shopkeepers for Schools: An Extra Credit Event. It’s a fun, and easy, way to support your favorite school. This event is super simple. From February 15 to 22, Red Barn Mercantile and Penny Post will donate 10 percent of your sale to your favorite local Alexandria school.

How does it work? It’s easy! Using your school’s newsletter and take-home folders (assuming those are still a thing since it’s been a while since my kids were in elementary school), tell everyone at your school to shop that week and mention the school at checkout or in the notes section on our websites. Next, tell all your friends and family to do their shopping with us. Then, come shopping! Tell our team what school you are shopping for when you check out.

This is a great opportunity to treat yourself to something wonderful or to buy an early gift for mom, dad, or your favorite upcoming grad while helping the schools. Honestly, it’s a win for you, for us, and most importantly, for the kids!

To make it an even bigger win, we are adding additional incentives. First, the school that raises the most money will receive an additional 10 percent, whether it’s public or private, Pre-K or high school. So, your school can be on the leaderboard! Second, we will make a matching donation of the winning school’s totals to The Scholarship Fund for Alexandria to support those high school seniors needing extra support to go on to higher education.

So, it’s a win/win/win/win!

We have materials you can share with your PTA to spread the word or to use for your network. Simply fill out this form, and we will send you what you need to make this event as successful as possible. Also, look for updates on our Instagram pages here, here, and here to see which school gets the matching donation!

Owner Amy Rutherford started Red Barn because she wanted to deliver a service — to provide both old and new in one place. No longer will busy shoppers be limited to reproductions or forced to shop multiple flea markets for the look or gifts they want. The trick in blending old and new, vintage and modern, classic and quirky, is balance. And Amy’s knack for mixing rustic antiques with urban chic has created a look that is both fresh and familiar.

Located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, Penny Post is an independent boutique specializing in custom stationery and wedding invitations. Inspired by the art of personal correspondence, the power of handwritten notes, and the smell of freshly printed stationery, we surround ourselves with quirky, hilarious, and classically beautiful things to make life a little brighter.
