Introducing Tanya Taylor: Effortless Style, Perfect for Alexandria

I’ve had my eye on Tanya Taylor for years. I think Periwinkle carried the line at one point, and my friend Wendy at Wrabyn always tells me how beautifully it works in her Annapolis store. I once reached out to them and never heard back, and then one weekend their representative stopped by The Hive unexpectedly—and he couldn’t have been lovelier. He was in town for a trunk show at the home of Christina, a friend and customer of The Hive. After the event, Christina told me how wonderful it was and how much this area’s boutique scene was missing Tanya Taylor. Everything aligned, and I knew it was time to take a closer look.

After meeting the team and seeing the collection, I knew Tanya Taylor would be a perfect fit for so many reasons. First, it’s female-owned. Second, it isn’t heavily distributed, which works beautifully for a small store like ours. Small independent brands and small independent stores have real synergy. Third, the clothes are exactly what so many of our clients want: easy, flattering pieces that make getting dressed simple while still feeling polished. Most styles transition seamlessly from work, to day-to-day life, to dinners and parties. They’re versatile and comfortable—a combination that’s hard to beat.

I always know a line is strong when they repeat silhouettes season after season—because that means they work. I love the Hudson skirt, which comes in so many fabrics and colors. We have it in chalk denim and chocolate suede, and I’ll be ordering it in other versions as well. I’ve also heard wonderful things about the Nicole pant, and I’m excited to try them myself.

Finally, Tanya Taylor is just a joy to work with. When I asked if they would host a trunk show, they didn’t hesitate for a second.

I’m thrilled to introduce Tanya Taylor to The Hive—and reintroduce it to our area. We’ll be kicking off our trunk show Thursday, September 18 through Sunday, September 21. To make it even more special, we’re hosting alongside another female-owned jewelry line new to the store, Monbouquette (more on them soon in Alexandria Stylebook).

I hope you’ll stop by The Hive. We can also place special orders, and I have no doubt our customers will love this line as much as I do!

Owner | The Shoe Hive/The Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
