A Nostalgic Comeback: The Iconic K-Way Jacket
Anyone who knows me knows I shop with nostalgia—both for my own closet and for the store. If a piece reminds me of my ‘70s childhood or ‘80s teen years, I’m hooked. That explains my soft spot for racer stripes, terry cloth, and track suits. The heyday of Adidas and my love of ‘80s tennis sealed the deal.
So when I walked into a showroom last spring and spotted K-Way rain jackets, I knew we had to have them. They instantly transported me back to my very preppy Ohio childhood.
A little backstory: K-Way was founded in Paris in 1965, inspired by the idea of creating a lightweight, waterproof jacket that folded neatly into its own pouch—an alternative to clunky umbrellas and bulky raincoats. It quickly became an iconic fashion staple.
The brand hit a setback in 1992 when a fire destroyed its factory, and it ultimately closed in 1999. But in 2004, Italian footwear brand Superga (another longtime favorite of ours) revived K-Way, and it’s been going strong ever since.
