KTI Project: From Renovated to Lived In: The Rosecrest Story
There is a moment in every home when renovation gives way to something more personal. At Rosecrest, that transition unfolded over time, shaped by daily life, family needs, and a thoughtful collaboration that carried the home beyond completion into something deeply lived in.
The project began with a significant addition and renovation by Harry Braswell, Inc., a process the homeowners still reflect on with gratitude. “We still feel fortunate to have met the Braswell team. Every step went smoothly and the craftsmanship cannot be beat,” the homeowner shares. During those early months, spent largely at home with two young children, the newly finished spaces adapted quickly. “My custom office became a virtual kindergarten classroom, and my walk-in closet became the only place I could work peacefully.”
Even then, it was clear the home had more to become.
From Finished to Fully Lived In
“I’ve always loved beautiful interiors, so I knew the renovation was only the first step,” she explains. After several years of living with a blank slate, she was ready to move forward. “I finally knew I needed to lean on an expert.”
Through a collaboration with Kristin Try Interiors, the focus shifted from structure to feeling. The transformation came through layering rather than overhaul. “I love an intentionally layered room with coordinating fabrics and elements that make the home feel lived in,” she shares. “That moment happened when the wallpaper, rugs, and custom window treatments, pillows, and cushions all came together.”
For Kristin, that shared mindset is where the work becomes most meaningful. “I truly love working with clients who enjoy the process and understand the value of beautiful textiles and thoughtful layering. When there is that shared appreciation, we can build confidence in each decision and create a result that feels both personal and enduring.”
Spaces That Reflect Real Life
As the home evolved, it began to better support the way the family lives. The basement was reimagined after time spent in the space. “We enhanced the floor plan to match our life now,” she explains, adding a workout room, homework station, and a gathering space for games and evenings together.
On the main level, smaller interventions created some of the most meaningful impact. A once narrow dining room bench was expanded into a generous, layered seating area. “What was once dead space is now one of the most vibrant areas in the house,” she says. It now serves as a reading nook, gathering space, and a favorite perch for the family dog.
A Home to Live In and Love
“There was a moment when everything felt almost too beautiful,” she admits. “I was scared to let my family live in it. Then I remembered the purpose was to create a home that felt lived in.”
With thoughtful material choices, including durable performance fabrics, the home has proven both beautiful and practical. It continues to evolve in small, meaningful ways. “That feels far less daunting than starting from scratch, but keeps the joy of the process going.”
Looking back, she is certain this phase was essential. “My home brings me joy as I walk from room to room. It’s a place to recharge and reflect what I love when I welcome others in.”
A Shared Success
Today, Rosecrest feels just as it should. “Comfortable, joyful, and cohesive.”
It is a home shaped not only by thoughtful design, but by collaboration, trust, and time.
We are grateful to the talented team at Harry Braswell, Inc. and to the exceptional vendors and artisans whose craftsmanship and dedication bring depth and beauty to each project. It is always a privilege to work together in creating homes that are not only finished, but truly lived in.
