Weaving Style and Sustainability One Bag at a Time

You've heard the old saying, "it's better to be lucky than good" - well, it's true in fashion. When we hit a great new line, I would love to say it is always my savvy buying sense or my keen eye. But it isn't; sometimes things just fall into my lap…Last week a wonderful designer, Stephanie, based in Washington, D.C., called the store and spoke to Alicia. Alicia tipped me off to look out for an email and when I got it, I moved so fast that just days later, the products were already on our shelves. Right when I opened the initial email and saw the bags, I knew we needed them. That was before I even knew the amazing story behind the bags, or that they were waterproof and won't ever fall apart. The tag line for the Lilley Line is "Weaving Style and Sustainability One Bag at a Time." Each bag you buy supports a micro business and the earth. They are all hand-woven in El Salvador by local artisans in the mountains of Sonsonate. But that isn't their only purpose; they will never break - no matter how heavy the load. They are made from durable plastic that is also used for the blades of weed whackers. So, those reusable shopping bags and tote bags you replace all the time? They can become a thing of the past. Did I mention they are waterproof as well? Just rinse them out if you get anything in them.Purpose and style all in one. It's the perfect beach bag, pool bag, or market bag. You can even use them for gardening, taking food to friends, travel, and so on. I can't wait to get a large one for the back of my car for all the kid sports stuff I haul around. I love watching baseball and softball, but the amount of dirt that comes with it is so frustrating. These are the perfect solution; I will literally spray them out with a garden hose when they get dirty. There are so many great styles and colors - you have to be able to find something you like. We have brights and stripes for summer, and this fall look for a more neutral selection you can use all year.If you want to hear more about Stephanie's story, click here. Stop in or log on to our website to shop the selection. You will not find a more refined and useful bag around.
