Meet Claris Virot: Parisian Style With a Cool Edge

One of our favorite ways to discover new lines is by browsing showrooms at market. On our last trip, we popped into Franklin Showroom (home of Freda Salvador) and, just as we were rushing out the door, a small table caught my eye. The brand was Claris Virot—straight from Paris, of course.

What I saw stopped me in my tracks: the most beautiful collection of leather bags, belts, and buckles I’d seen in years. If you lived through the 80s, you probably remember when belts had their moment—ribbon belts, gold stretch styles, and my own stash of colored leather straps with interchangeable buckles. The Claris Virot pieces instantly reminded me of that era, but with a fresh, modern edge. My favorite? The beetle buckle. (Fun fact: she tucks a little beetle motif onto all her bags, too.) Honestly, I love them all, but we decided to start with a carefully curated selection.

Claris Virot herself is just as inspiring as the designs. She launched her brand in her 40s, after frequent trips to Bali where she had local artisans create bags for her personal collection. When people kept asking where they could get them, she turned her hobby into a business. Thirteen years later, her line is thriving, female-owned, and sold through small, independent boutiques like ours.

We’re thrilled to share these pieces with you—and if you love them as much as we do, we’ll happily bring in more of this Parisian-meets-global brand.

Owner | The Shoe Hive/The Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
